Revspoke works with Bluetooth sensors that use the standard Cycling Speed and Cadence profile and are set to speed mode on the wheel hub. We've tested the Van Rysel (Decathlon) and Magene S3+: see the sensor guide. Most other dual speed/cadence sensors that can connect to phone apps should work too, but we can't promise every model.

Not supported: ANT+-only sensors, cadence-only sensors on the crank, and GPS-only bike computers.

Many dual sensors pick their mode from how they're mounted, or from a button press or battery reinsert. The light colour usually shows the mode. On the Magene S3+ and the Van Rysel you switch mode by taking the battery out and putting it back: see fit and connect.

• Spin the wheel. Sensors sleep to save battery, and a few turns wake them.
• Check Bluetooth is on, and that Revspoke has permission: on iPhone, Settings › Revspoke › Bluetooth; on Android, Settings › Apps › Revspoke › Permissions › Nearby devices.
• Close other cycling apps or bike computers. Some sensors accept only one connection at a time.
• Battery reset: take the battery out for 10 seconds, put it back in firmly, then spin the wheel again.
• Still nothing? Replace the CR2032 coin cell.

The Van Rysel reports speed only above about 5 km/h, so slow hand spins can read 0. Spin harder, or ride. If the speed looks wrong when riding, check the wheel size in Settings, or use Measure: roll the bike one full wheel turn and type the distance.

1. Strap the sensor round the rear hub (the middle of the back wheel), not the spokes or the crank.
2. Open Revspoke, spin the wheel, and tap your sensor in the list.
3. Pick your bike type and wheel size, then press Start engine.

Yes. On the "Find sensor" screen tap Skip: use the demo sensor, or turn on Settings › Demo sensor. It plays a 40-second ride so you can see and hear how it works.

Yes. Start the engine, then lock the phone. On Android you'll see a notification while the engine runs. Tap Kill engine (or use the notification) to stop.

Yes. Pair the speaker with your phone as usual. Bluetooth audio adds a short delay, so the sound may lag the wheel slightly.

Loud enough for you, not for the street. The app caps the volume by default and warns you before going higher. Keep it low enough to hear traffic and people, and watch the road.

iPhone with iOS 15.1 or later. Android phones with Android 7.0 or later and Bluetooth Low Energy. The app is free on the App Store and Google Play.

Open the Garage in the app and tap Full Garage. It's £9, paid once through the App Store or Google Play, and unlocks every engine for good on that store account.

Sign in with the same Apple or Google account and tap Settings › Restore purchases. You don't pay again.

iPhone: in the Garage tap Redeem code, or in the App Store app tap your profile picture › Redeem Gift Card or Code. Android: Play Store › your profile picture › Payments & subscriptions › Redeem code. iPhone codes work only on the App Store and Android codes only on Google Play. Check the redeem-by date.
